I am a Baby Boomer

Today I did something that I have only done twice in my life. I hit "Mark All As Read" on Teh Google Reader. I did this because after reading ten posts about President Dumbsnot McAntiamerican backing the Muslim Victory Trophy in Manhattan, I had had a bellyful.

But, while glancing through the unlimited Obama Hates the United States messages, I read a post about what all the Baby Boomers have accomplished. The self-congratulatory feel of the post turned my stomach. Lemme tell y'all why.

I am a man. Parts of my background are that I am Catholic, I was born in Mississippi, I am a United States citizen, I have major-league feather Indian blood, I attended public school, I grew up on a farm, I can juggle, I once sewed my own finger up, I am right-handed, I have a degree in architecture, I am self-employed, I like motorcycles, and I cannot stand cats.

These are all things that are part and parcel of what I am, but none define me totally as who I am. Only one thing does that. I am Paul Mitchell. I have many, many traits. Some good, some bad, but they are part of me, too.

Potential? Yes, I am a failure at many things. I cannot hit a baseball for shit. I had good junk from the hill, but I could not hit. But, I once shot a squirrel running on the ground at forty yards. WITH. A. BOW.

I said all of these things to get around to the point of saying that I am an individual. I cannot take credit for things that I did not do, yet I can take credit for things that I have accomplished.

What I mean is this, since I shot that squirrel, I DID IT, not all Catholics, not all right handed folks, not all public school grads, you get the picture.

While individual Baby Boomers may have accomplished plenty, the entire generation did not, so to offer up, "Baby Boomers invented the internet" is just flat out DUMB. No, a generation of people did not do this, an INDIVIDUAL did.

Until we dispel with all of the group building claptrap, we will never be able to return the the pioneering spirit of the typical American. I think that we can all agree that needs to happen.

By the way, impeached President Bill Clinton and the current occupant of the Barry White House, are both Baby Boomers.

Please take the time to comment.

Sank a squirrel with a bow shot. Not bad.

We don't KNOW that Barry is a Baby Boomer. He ain't proved it yet. If and when he does, I want him voted out of there, too.

ANd my bow is sitting unassembled on the floor. Got nowhere to shoot until we make the transition from inner city apartment to house out towards the boons. I think this is a message everybody needs to hear. Glad someone said it.

It would piss me off having a group of people try and take credit for my own achievements and I'm sure it would vice versa. Until we stop playing the 'everyone's a winner' game and take off the rose-tinted achievement glasses no real change can occur.

Red, when you get all through with the self-mutilation that you are doing every morning, it shall be a HUGE victory for the Gen Xers.

Dammit, that BB are so great post made me mad. But, so does that thing about The Greatest Generation. Pound for pound, the Greatest Generation produced more Communists, leftists, "Progressives," fascists, racists, and so on.

Precisely. I can't stand being lumped in with ANY tribe whether racial or generational or "life-style" identity. I had enough of tribes in Africa. Americans are individuals.

B the B, you and me both. The Baby Boomers need to get off my back and accomplish something for themselves.
