The Fascism of Minimum Wage

Well again I have been jumping around the blog world, reading Rightwingsparkle, and got sucked into a debate on the minimum wage. This post is basically Finance 101 the Two Dogs way. Pull up a chair. Oh and read RWS's blog. She's from my adopted hometown and just seems as sweet as watermelon wine.

Here we go. The minimum wage is just flat out stupid. This is an idea that might have made sense if the wage was determined by the guys who pay the damn wage. Wait, no it wouldn't. I say that capitalism is not unlike survival of the fittest. If my company can make a hamburger that is not only better than yours but also make it at a lower price, I am going to drive you out of business. It's up to you to learn how to make a better burger and make it cheaper. Adapt human or be assimilated.

Now, is there anyone out there that doesn't understand that if I raise the minimum wage on my lowest paid employees; I must charge MORE for my product? The only people this helps are....wait for it.....NO ONE IS HELPED AT ALL!!!!!

You see, product and profit are tied together from the onset. In order for me to make a profit, people have to be willing to buy my product at the price I have to set to stay in business. And the cycle continues.....

Now, on the wage receiving end, it's like this. If minimum wage is raised, every single product in the country gets more expensive. Duh. That means that the people that were making minimum wage wind up with a net gain of zero. Think about it. This presents a major problem. The people that were making more than minimum wage are left with a negative net gain. THEIR SALARY IS WORTH LESS! Get it?

Minimum wage earners for the most part are younger workers that are NOT supporting a family of four people. You know this. All you have to do is THINK. I know that you really believe that raising the minimum wage helps people, but dammit, it doesn't.

Oh, and while I'm screaming about money, Social Security is stupid, too. Let me out of the program, I promise you can keep the contributions that have been stolen from me. Like I have a choice.

Wait until you're sober, then read that shit again. If it still makes sense, have some more to drink!

Dead cold sober. Makes complete sense, what you don't think it does? Alternative views are always welcome here. You of all people should know that. And what, nothing to say about the church murderer guy?

You secretly want to be a white bigot, don't you? Are you the type of Native American that can pass for white? You sound real silly right about now!If you don't see how raising the minimum wage helps the economy, then I can't take the time to explain it to you. Now I know you're just being a sensationalist. What's your next post going to say,"Rich Whites deserve a tax break"?.How about"Slavery was good for everyone". No....Wait, how about"Whites are the Master Race".

soundboyz, I think that I have laid out a very cogent argument. I do believe that you might have trouble arguing my points. What I have outlined is not addressing a racial issue or a class issue, it is an economic one that is simply stated.

I fail to see the correlation with bigotry and with people understanding what I have stated. If you see racism, please tell me what it is that brings you to that conclusion.

And raising the minimum wage has NEVER helped the economy. The limited number of minimum wage jobs goes down every time after a wage hike. Unemployment goes up. Sounds like a lose-lose situation to me.

O.K. Two Dogs.....You WIN!!!! Shit!!! The Republicans are RIGHT everyone else is WRONG!!!We were doing terribly under 8 years of Clinton, I'm glag were under Bush! I'm doing so much better! The Economy is really great!!! I hope we NEVER go back to the Clinton years, BOY those were the days of the soup kitchens. I'm glad the Republicans are looking out for the common folk. Under Bush, I am doing Great!!!!That trickle down theory really works.Really!!! When you give rich people more of their money back, they can spend more , invest more, SHIT, they give bigger tips! They give more to charity. What an excellent Idea!!! We have to credit our hero Reagan with that one. We did so well under him too!!!!Republicans for LIFE!!!!!!!FUCK!!!!!

Paul Mitchell said...

Well, I do not think that I did so well back during Reagan's first term because I was fresh out of high school and trying to find a way to make a living. However, even then I made more than minimum wage and it bothered me everytime they raised it. I think that it happened two or three times during the early eighties. Could be wrong on that.

Even at twenty years old, I thought that the elected officials had to understand that the only people that raising minimum wage hurt were those making minimum wage, oh and everyone else.

You see, economic numbers are not static. This means that if I add a cost to my product, such as beening forced to pay lower income earners more, I HAVE to raise the cost of my product. This not only does not help lower wage earners, it hurts them.

How, you ask? Because they never adjusted the tax table to allow for the lowest income earners to stay at net zero. Not only did the price of EVERY DAMN THING go up, lower wage earners found themselves haven't to actually pay taxes for the first time ever.

Which brings us to another point, if you don't pay taxes to begin with, how can you benefit from a tax cut? You can't, tax cuts CUT TAXES. If you don't pay taxes, you don't get a cut. Duh.

Oh, here comes the next installment of Economics 101, money the Two Dogs way. Stayed tuned.

O.K. This is the last thing i'm going to say on this. All throughout your little factoring, you never bothered to think about a company eating some of the profit for it's employee's benefit.Oh....I forgot , Republicans don't ever factor in the company losing anything. Instead, they want unskilled low payed immigrants that don't know their rights, who would be more than happy to make $5.50 an hour. One would think, instead of Burger King grossing 2.346 billion dollars, they could give their employees a raise and maybe they would only make 2.3459 billion dollars. But , like you said they would NOT mess with the bottom line, instead they would pass the cost on to the customer.Just like blood sucking leeches!!!That's why the service and the quality of food has gone way down along with their Gross profit. So, they pay for it anyway!!That's fuckin business and Economics 101.....provide a high quality good or service at a reasonable cost!!!

Paul Mitchell said...

Funny you should Burger King as example since they have posted a double digit profit decline in the last two years. Seems that the media screaming about Mad Cow (talk about hysteria) hit them kinda hard.

Further more you do not take into account that Burger King donated a restaurant to help feed our boys in Afganistan. Damn, a restaurant.

Also, Burger King pays their full time employees to go to college. Damn blood sucking leeches! You see, Burger King doesn't want minimum wage earners, they want someone who is motivated enough to help them make money. Because that's why they are in business.

Oh, and their total gross SALES, not profit were only 11 billion last year. I'm not sure what the profit is on a burger, but I'm guessing that it can't be too high because they pay their lowest wage earners minimum wage and it takes damn near an hour to get a burger. http://www.hsor.org/case_studies.cfm?name=burger_king

That's the FACTS.

Thank you very, very much Imara!!!!I said that I was NOT going to comment about this again, but I just have to say to Imara.....Thank you!Amen and Amen!!!!

I do know that there a few people that are living on minimum wage, however, this is the exception not the rule. This thing that I have tried to explain is that minimum wage laws hurt the poor more than anyone. I know that you can get a job at McDonald's, do a good job and get a raise within thirty days. I know because I did it.

I also know that if a person is motivated to do good work, they are rewarded whether at McDonald's or if they are the CEO of a large corporation.

Imara, you have to understand that the President of the United States has very little bearing on economic trends. Granted Clinton was fortunate enough to be President when we experienced boom times in the technological sector. These boom times started during Reagan's presidency, continued throughout much of Bush I's reign and picked up after 1994. Clinton had very little to do with it and even had a negative impact on the economy after being reelected. If you want to give him credit for something, give him credit for handing Bush II an incoming recession. No, it was not bad, but the slowdown in the economy started in late 1998.

Also, you might believe that we are experiencing some type of bad financial times right now. THIS IS NOT TRUE. Unemployment figures are at the same point that they were at the lowest point in Clinton's terms in office. Same numbers, different reporting. Hmmmmmmmmm.

Here it is in a nutshell, all of the safety nets that liberalism has imposed on us to wipe out povery have had a negative impact on earned income. Don't believe me? Check for yourself.

We have the same number of people living below the poverty line now as we had in 1980. FACT. What Leftists fail to realize is that your Moses, John Kennedy, passed sweeping tax cuts. If it was good then, why is it not good now? Could it be because we have a Republican in the White House?

Oh, and do I vote my pocketbook at the ballot box? No, because I never voted for Clinton and I was experiencing the financial highpoint of my life up to that time. I did not vote for Bill Clinton because he was a liar and he hates his country.

There was a Terrorist attack in 2001. The economy stoped in its tracks. Now we are recovering nicely from that. Don't Blame the president for the fall of the economy, blame the terrorist...Oh, who, by the way, are the same terrorist that bombed the world trade center back in (when was it?)1993. Who was the president then? Bill Clinton. was anything done about it then? NO. So therefore blame the Clinton administration for not doing anything about terrorism, and, by that, inviting the terrorist to plan another attack.

Paul Mitchell said...

It wasn't a contradiction, I said that IF (a big if) we were to give credit to the President for the flow of money.....blah, blah, blah.

Imara, I do lay the attack on the Trade Center at Clinton's feet sorta. As you know, it was Muslim terrorists that actually did it, but Clinton could have done plenty, including taking Bin Laden into custody, but his Cabinet was completely incompetent and dishonest. (I can offer over 1000 different reasons for my opinion on this, let's not go there.)

While I am not sure that this would have stopped the attack, it might have dried up around 650 million dollars of OBL's personal wealth.

And Republicans were not responsible for Clinton's legal troubles, they were brought by his own Justice Department. FACT. Janet Reno appointed Ken Starr as the lead investigator of all Clinton's trailer trash dealings.

Imara, two points for you here, I DO NOT watch television, except for baseball and sports shows and not very often. And I despise that dumbass Bill O'Reilly. And even the most far Left moonbat cannot believe that George Bush decided to invade the countries in the Middle East simply for money. This is just nuts. Even I don't believe that Clinton launched tactical strikes to draw attention away from the Paula Jones stuff even though it was mighty strange timing. Hmmmmmm.

Imara, please tell them the truth.Obviously these people would'nt know the truth if it walked up and p*##ed on them!!

Baseball is by far the greatest sport ever invented, in my not so humble opinion. Surprisingly enough, I like the BoSox, the ChiSox, Yankees in the AL. And Cards and Reds in NL. NL rules, punk a DH. I can't believe y'all didn't read my post on the steriod thing a couple of weeks ago.

Clinton's cabinet: only 26 were indicted by the Justice Department. All resigned, 22 pled the Fifth, 7 actually served time, you want me to keep going? Hubbell even died in prison.

Please don't lump me in with that damn cconverted Communist O'Reilly. He still holds much of the same opinions that he did during the Radical Days at Berkeley. Rich-ass Cracker.

Have not heard of the 'Project', but you know I will learn. I'm open-minded, remember.

Oh, and soundboyz, read Ann's columns, she's funny as shit. And she agreed big-time with us on the girl deputy crap.

Info-info: I read at least 4 online papers every two days. Numerous columnists, bloggers, yes even Kos and Democratic Underground. Television just doesn't do it for me. It's static information and I need my junk right when I need it.

That was EXACTLY what I thought when I saw that!!!!!EXACTLY!!!!

The Iran-Contra thing was the right move. Reagan wanted to keep Communism from getting a foothold in Nicaragua. He proved that to be the right move. Maybe the trading with Iraq then ws not the best idea, but you do what can. Anyone that tries to say that Ronald Reagan was not a great man, just doesn't understand this philosophy. Plus, he was very polite when I met him in 1979.

And soundboyz, I think that you might be getting mixed up on who was friends with Hitler. Think Joe Kennedy.

Wayne World said...

Actually Imara was the one that brought that up, but I will be more than happy to take up the fight!Don't give me that crap about Kennedy I will return with the facts!!!

My first job was as a lifeguard. They told me it was $4.25 an hour. I told them I'd pay it as long as I could. Then they said, "No, we pay you!". Wow, I thought, getting PAID to look at girls in bikinis all day long. What a great country we live in...

Two Dogs, have you seen Bush's cabinet? Most of them were involved with Iran Contra- among many other crimes. Bush 41 waved his magic wand, and they all resurfaced under W. It's sick. I will give you this, most politicians are corrupt, but I think the Bush's take the cake. Prescot Bush was convicted of Treason. He earned the family fortune by aiding Hitler. Should I go on?
